A male Common Mourning Bee spreads its wings to take off from an aucuba leaf. It's a chunky solitary bee, about 13mm long. It's mainly black, with a yellow-grey collar and grey face, and tufts of white hair on the sides of its thorax and abdomen, and on its legs. Females lay their eggs in the nests of Hairy-footed Flower Bees.
