The tiniest trouser hole calls for the tiniest surface darn. Accidental plaid from a single strand of variegated embroidery thread.
It’s a little mend with big impact. Three or four more to do when my eyes have recovered. Tough going even with the magnifying light.

Zipped up red fleece hoodie with Junior Forest Wardens badge. Old sewing machine manual opened to zipper foot page.
My first zipper! I replaced a broken zipper on this kids fleece jacket. After years in a pile in the basement. Now it can go to a new home. I learned how to buy a zipper and how to use the zipper foot on my old sewing machine. I feel like I can do anything now! lol! #mendmarch #sewing #zipper
All the holes darned on these fingerless gloves, brought into the repair cafe 5 months ago 😂.
Only worked on at repair cafes when I wasn’t busy with other things.
Need more reinforcing, but I’ll leave that to the owner after instruction.

Got a bag of holey jeans from freecycle for mending practice/examples. One of them fits me!
Hoping by the time I’ve done all the structural stitching I’ll have figured out what the decoration will be 🤞
Currently second guessing all ideas, including these massive patches.

Hole with woven mend
Hole in wool sweater with pins
My first mend of March. A hole in the elbow of my husbands wool sweater. I pulled some knitted threads out from scraps of a thrifted sweater to make this little mend. There is a scrap placed underneath and secured for added reinforcement. #mendmarch
This year I’m planning to do #FinishItFebruary, #MendMarch and #TourDeFleece again, same as last year. Are there any other fibre arts/sewing related monthly challenges that I could do?
Thin patch in my jeans ready to be mended. There are other mends in the area already
It’s still #MendMarch! It still counts!
An orange towel with a vertical tear in it
Same orange towel mended with a strip and a square of brown and tan striped toweling.
I didn't do #MendMarch this year but it's still March and I mended this towel that had developed a hole after 25 years of hard use. Not sure how it will be using a mended towel, but this is a Fine Thing that I bought myself during a Bad Time and it will comfort me a while more yet. #VisibleMending
Two sleeves of a navy blue sweater are neatly mended with small patches surrounded by a tidy perimeter stitching. Text overlay reads “This shows that we’re placing value on the pieces already in our wardrobes, showing the big companies that we don’t want to keep replacing items, and that we want to reduce the amount of textile waste that ends up in landfill.”
“This”= mending. I’d add that it saves us time & resources too & personalizes our wardrobe like a tattoo. Fight against the greed that devastates our 🌍. Mend your clothing. It’s Mend March. Mending skills are rich skills useful for all. Try your hand at a little mend. You won’t be sorry. #mendMarch

Image of repaired clothing with a woven darn, sunny yellow repair thread on indigo fabric in four places. Caption reads “Repairing our clothes has been shown to displace the need for buying new items by 82%.”
I feel like this has come true in my own life! #mendMarch with thanks to @slowstitchclub.bsky.social for images from their instagram account (nudge nudge please post here!).
I am behind with #MendMarch as I am every year. Here is my day 10 #MendMarchSmitten I started mending these charity shop fast fashion jeans about 3 years ago, and I am smitten with the changes that repeated mends have brought about. I love how they are evolving. New knee patch tonight.
A beige sweater in a semi - finished state of mending. One grey elbow patch and one hole darned with brown mending wool.
After a loose fill on two nasty elbow holes, some contrast patches make everything look neat and tidy. I can't wait to show this visible mending project in its finished state.

A pair of blue jeans on a bed, showing a 2” hole in the left side crotch area which has been mended with an interior dark blue patch of denim and exterior dashed line sashiko style stitching in blue thread that closely matches the jeans color. On the other side of the crotch the thinning material has been reinforced in an identical way.
A photo of the upper thigh area of a pair of light blue jeans being worn. There is a 6” wide hole that has been filled by an interior light green denim patch and stitched in with a persimmon flower sashiko stitch pattern using variegated grey, white, and dark pink thread.
Repaired my two favorite pairs of jeans using sashiko techniques. One crotch hole and reinforcement on pair 1, and a leg hole on pair 2. I will not be sharing a photo of my rear end on BlueSky but the repairs on 1 are not visible during wear. 😉#VisibleMending #Sashiko #MendMarch
Partially mended with red patch and black embroidery stitches
Holes in sleeve of black hoodie
It’s only 80% cotton but the sleeve on this hoodie must have been the victim to puppy teeth as well, I’m not sure how else there would be so many small holes. I am mending them with a red patch in the back and running stitches of black embroidery thread. #cotton #mendmarch2025 #mendmarch
Unfortunately, my mom is no longer capable of helping. I went over to look through her stash and couldn’t find any of the original material. I did find some other flannel I’ll try to use with embroidery thread. Let me know if you have any tips. 2/2 #mendmarch2025 #mendmarch
—for #mendmarch2025, prompt “it’s a lot”: I’ve been #handstitching on this #mend since the fall. Yards of tiny #runningstitches over internal patches! I rarely post for #mendmarch because it falls at a busy time of year for me, but I usually am #mending something!
This sock mend is looking a little wild. I fixed the holes (see previous post) but there are still thin spots. I’m sad I ran out of the pink wool I was using, It must have been very old, probably my grandmas, but it was nice to work with. “Foot” #mendmarch2025 #mendmarch #darning
A green hand knit sock with three spots worn thin enough to see through, including a large spot in the center where some of the stitches have been duplicated in a different green yarn to reinforce and fill in the threadbare part.
The pair of green hand knit socks after the threadbare spots on the bottoms of both are filled in with lighter green yarn. The sock on the right has a single patched rectangle. The sock on the left has three patched rectangles in an arrangement that looks a bit like it is screaming in horrified surprise.
No #mending or sewing for a few days because chronic neuroinflammation sucks. But this morning I put on socks and could still feel the cold floor through threadbare spots, so I managed today's #MendMarch "foot" prompt by restoring warmth to mine (and apparently horrifying a sock in the process).
A black sock’s heel on a darning mushroom. The worn heel is being Swiss darned with a red/white/black variegated yarn.
Darning this sock will take a while but is very pretty.

Closeup of a section of a pair of medium-blue jeans. The area is covered by a white piece of stabilizer that has a pattern of dots, and there are two and a half lines of stitched dashes in medium blue thread already complete.
Side two of my favorite jeans, this is the area that’s just thin but has no holes. Making the stitches even is easier when I can see the dots on the stabilizer. #Mending #VisibleMending #MendMarch
Fraying threads on one elbow of a knit yellow cotton sweater
Part of a knit yellow cotton sweater showing a patch starting to take shape. The partial patch is made of alternating stripes of light blue yarn and pink yarn, which appears to be formed from lines of v-shaped pairs of stitches. The v shape is formed by rows of "weft twining" in alternating directions.
Progress on the second elbow's patch using the same technique as the first. Two needles are shown, one for each color of yarn being used.
A knit yellow cotton sweater with completed matching pink and blue striped patches on the elbows.
Had yesterday off, so for the "swap it" #MendMarch prompt I swapped in a #tapestry technique and used weft twining to reinforce these fraying elbows instead of my usual methods, also swapping between two colors to make stripes.
I'm pretty hard on sweater elbows, so new ways of #mending are good!
A mitten with red, orange, burgundy and beige stripes in front of a blurred background. There is a brown Swiss darn mend near the top of the mitten.
Another quick mend - Swiss darned a hole in these Nepalese mittens.

Front of the jeans. There are green mends on the pockets, the thighs and the crotch.
Back of the jeans. Again there are green mends on the pockets, the back belt loop and the crotch.

The many many mends on my husband’s jeans.
#MendMarch you can start simple!
My hand in a purple mitt is holding a green pj top with a white button freshly sewn to it.
#MendMarch Quick Fix
Simply sewing a button back onto my pjs. One of the easiest mends there is but did you know that ~33% of Brits do not know how to do it?
I came across this helpful video by #rajivsurendra which shows you how to sew on a button.
Video: youtu.be/r7tLwrxGf2M?...
You can replace a missing button or spice up a shirt with new buttons!

Blue oval patch on light pink jeans with white hearts in varied sizes
Grey oval patch with cartoonish monster white teeth overlayed on grey pants with white and grey cartoon eyes above
We get all our kids' clothes secondhand, so inevitably they blow out the knees on every pair of pants. I've taken to giving the mends a bit more character.

darn it! I fixed up my purple socks with some pink wool and a scotch darn now I hope I have enough pink left to repair these new holes on some very fragile wool socks I’ve repaired in the past. #mendmarch #mendmarch2025
