She didn’t ask who else was coming but was unsurprised when Dirac appeared accompanied by Admiral Sarn. He was holding a clear red data chip in one hand. “We got the confirmation and replies from Recari. The Siblinghood courier entered the system but stopped just inside transmat range, sent this over, and disappeared, all under shielding. If you want to get the decryption started, I’ll call the others.” Stevens took the chip but simply laid it on the desk, clearly debating something with herself before replying. “Just not Saron; she said not to disturb her.” Nodding, Dirac stepped away and Stevens found herself under the scrutiny of Tarian Sarn. His eyes went from her own to the ancient, thick paper book that lay off to the side, several bookmarks poking out from the top. His expression became reflective and darkly amused. “I can’t imagine what he would say if he were here.” Stevens sighed, her thin brows lifting. “I almost can. He thought he was the son of a god. The interstellar field of battle might shock him but our still learning from his tactics almost four thousand years later wouldn’t.” Sarn picked up the book reverently and carefully turned to the first of the cluster of red bookmarks near the back, nodding almost to himself as he met the suddenly tense green eyes following his actions. “Well, Alexander wasn’t a god, but he was arguably great, and Carrax Mir is definitely neither.”
