I thought about a "What if" sort of scenario - what if Minfilia was really wanting Gale to pursue the Crown of Karsus? What if she really wanted to see them both mutually benefit from his ambition? Sounds too good to be true!! Then act 3, Minfilia learns more about the crown, the risks behind it, and flips her initial support. She begs Gale not to seek the crown, begs him to abandon that path. Instead, he chooses ambition over love, and thus no act 3 conversation. The relationship is over. There's no chance of reconciliation. Gale drops his half of the matching ring set the two bought as a testament of their love and the promise of a shared future together. I haven't seen if this is a possible dialogue exchange. The only exchange I attempted was trying to see if a romanced Gale, last minute, would use the orb before the final fight (I failed each roll. It was an interesting verbal altercation).
