#OTD in 1942, the #Minidoka WRA camp opened. Located on 33,000 acres of sagebrush desert in #Idaho, Minidoka held almost 10,000 people. The majority of the inmates came from #Washington, #Oregon, and #Alaska.

#OTD in 1942, the community of #JapaneseAmericans living on #BainbridgeIsland, #Washington were forcibly removed and sent to #Manzanar in #California. Eventually they would be sent to #Minidoka, Idaho where most of the residents of the #PacificNorthwest were sent.

My husband and I went to #minidoka last summer. You are the reason why I even knew about the Japanese internment camps. It is absolutely essential that people are taught. Yes. It can, and will, and has happened here. I am grateful to you for constantly speaking up.
