Some adorable bird, wish I knew what kind it was. blame the Minnesota zoo, they didn't have it tagged, but I will do my best to describe it. A long legged wading bird enters a small body of water. Their body is blue in color with black spots on its wings. The head has a red crest and beak with a white mask.

This here is the head of a black monitor lizard peaking out from behind a log and resting its chin on a rock. in the right of the photo is a prayer plant fully open, no prayers currently ;)

A white gibbon with a black face sits in a tree surrounded by palm leaves. Her arms are spread between the body of the tree and outstretched on a branch. She is looking off to the right of the photo. Behind is a rock wall.

Ok, so I did get a bunch of information on this gibbon. First, her name is Tia. She was the baby of her family when she was born, which meant that she never developed a mothering instinct. However, she has had three children, and each time they came out she wanted nothing to do with them. The zoo has had to scramble to find surrogates, and incredibly all three survived. I loved this story, because it does show that even in the animal kingdom, sometimes you just aren't meant or want to be a parent. As an adopted child, I think it also speaks to the fact that being raised by parents that didn't give birth to you is completely natural.

Other interesting facts about this scene include: this is actually an island they are sitting on in the zoo. Both in the zoo and in real life gibbons wont cross water, so she and her male partner stay on this island even though the actual enclosure has a lot more space. They do have a holding tank. The entrance is also on the island and to get them to go into, the zoo keepers use a laser light like a cat.

some blue billed brown duck swimming. I loved how its legs trail behind it when most ducks keep their legs below themselves. These were more like flippers on a scuba diver.

Ok, I am going for a #WildlifeWednesday this week. These are some more scenes from the #MinnesotaZoo. I got a ton of information on the Gibbon so check that alt text to learn a little something about Tia, the white female Gibbon. #Photography #Wildlife #NaturePhotography #EastCoastKin

Recently visited one of my favorite places to go when it’s cold out. The #MinnesotaZoo

I would say it’s easily in the Top 10 zoos in America for its massive enclosures and plethora of rare and unique species.

Looking to get back at your ex? The Minnesota Zoo would like to help If you have someone in your life who really bugs you... zoo staff have a solution.

Donate $15 before midnight 12/14 and you can name a bug after anyone you want and will then feed that bug to an animal. I believe that the Orange Idiot, and any MAGA Senator or Congressperson would be very happy to help the #MinnesotaZoo
