I’ve always sounded a bit more like my father’s brother, my namesake, which isn’t a bad thing. My father’s voice, like his father’s voice, was deeper - hovering between tenor and baritone. I always wanted that voice, and the ability to sing, but never had either.

The old glider on the front porch broke. I stopped by the place that makes the fake wood stuff and they gave me a new part. Dad gave me a set of tools back in the 80s to fix my ‘72 Super Beetle and I still have them along with his encouragement and wisdom. #MissYouDad

Father’s Day is a manufactured day of appreciation and has held varying degrees of significance for me. As a child, I wanted to do something my dad would be happy about. As an adult, becoming a father myself made it fun for a while. Losing my dad makes it heavier.
