Monochrome greyscale photo of an upland moorland landscape. In the foreground a track passes through a calm ford of a small burn, in the distance are the Monadhliath Mountains, dark with a few small patches of snow.

A grassy track, worn into the upland landscape, heading towards distant, brown, heather-clad hills. The highest peaks of the Monadhliath Mountains hidden by a blanket of grey clouds. Apart from a single leafless rowan in the middle distance, the scene is barren with a few outcrops of rock.

A heather strewn rolling highland moorland on a grey day. A track snakes its way through the landscape, blocked by a flooded ford from a normally small stream in the foreground. In the distance is the dark peak of A’Chailleach, part of the Monadhliath mountain range.

Black and white, a gravel road going gradually uphill on undulating moorland. The road goes over a bridge crossing a stream at the front, and there are about a dozen tall wind turbines at the back.

Moray the dog sat next to a small summit cairn of white stones, the ground is very short heather. There is heather moorland into the distance, with about a dozen tall wind turbines. The sky is mostly cloudy.

Black and white. About a dozen tall wind turbines on rolling moorland. There are gravel roads linking the turbines, and a tiny white van parked next to the nearest one, which shows the scale.

It may be Summer, but the frost is still about up high. Camp at 600m in the #Monadhliath. Soon after I was enjoying breakfast in the sunshine. #Bikepacking #Scotland

I had a lovely walk this afternoon, so lucky to have this only a mile from where I grew up. Looking into the hills towards A’Chailleach, and the track I started on.

The Monadhliath Mountains silhouetted against the last glimmer of the setting sun. The foreground is very dark green, with bluish mountains behind. The sky fades from dusky blue to pale orange, and the new moon is visible at the top.

For #silentSunday here’s a new moon over the Monadhliath from earlier in the week
