Sketch page of a tiefling, Perdition (or “Perdi”). Originally an unrepentant dark urge on Baldur’s Gate 3, these are more lighthearted depictions of Perdi in his redeemed co-op run with my partner’s tav. Sketches are in multiple stages of refinement. Perdi has twisting horns that curve forward at the tips, medium-length curly hair tied back at the nape of his neck, a septum ring with a skull trapped bead, purposeful scarring in a design over his chin and lower lip, and patches of black draconic scales on his face (he’s a Dragon Ancestry Sorcerer). His right eye is milky white and blind. Two sketches, one front and one side, of Perdi sitting and slouching. In one a speech bubble from behind him tells him, “Your posture is abysmal,” making him snicker. Another is labeled “SHRIMP” with an arrow. One has been blocked and refined; the other has been blocked, refined, and lined. One sketch of Perdi squatting so low his butt nearly touches the ground between his feet (aka the “Asian squat”), front view, pose referenced from a photo. His hair, face, and one arm have been refined. One lined 3/4 bust drawing of Perdi joking around. He has wedged the Dark Amethyst which unlocks the Necromancy of Thay into his own mouth and turned to look slightly up, presenting it to Astarion (off screen). There is a shouting/bang speech bubble that reads, “GET THAT OUT OF YOUR MOUTH?!” A little emote floats beside Perdi’s head, a mischievous expression with “HEHEHE” written beside it. This is to convey his mood, since it is unclear in his expression with his mouth stretched so wide.
This is part of an ongoing project of mine to create a full rainbow of tieflings. This will be my first time drawing eight of them. In-progress sketch of the color wheel character meme from a while back, with some altered colors. At north is Purple, then Fuschia, Red, Orange, Yellow, Neon Green, Teal, and Blue, proceeding clockwise. Beneath the wheel is a partial black and white wheel, with black to the viewer’s left, grey in the middle, and white on the right. The shades partial wheel is upside-down to the viewer, and the characters will be as well. Each color and shade wedge has a tiefling blocked within it, confined to the inner/smaller portion and extending beyond the larger/outer portion, breaking the frame. Only Purple’s tiefling currently has a refined sketch, an archer with long hair back in a ponytail twisting to line up a shot aimed to the viewer’s right. Above him is a star. By color and shade, Purple: Winter Orionn, Beastmaster Ranger, he/him. The first tiefling I ever made (campaign on permanent hiatus) and my first Tav. Fuschia: Peony, double-pacted Warlock (it’s complicated), all pronouns excluding “it” Red: Kit, Circle of Spores Druid, he/him Orange: Pax, Monk, he/him Yellow: Sunshine, Bard, she/her Green: Persistence, “Persi”, The Wild Rose, or “Rose;” College of Swords Bard, he/him Teal: Hope, multiclass Street Brawler and Guild Member, he/him Blue: Devotion “Dev,” Paladin, he/him Black: Callidus, Necromancer Wizard, he/him Grey: Perdition, Draconic Sorcerer, The Dark Urge, he/him White: Cassiopeia “Cassie,” Cleric of Selûne, she/her
Ver. 1 - sketch page. Fanart of Jennifer Giesbrecht’s The Monster of Elendhaven. The taller man is Johann. The shorter man is Florian Leickenbloom. Florian barely comes up to Johann’s shoulder. Largest sketch (blocking and refined): features the two side by side. Johann gives Florian a twisted, gleeful smile and looks down at him, his throat bared. He twirls a knife in the hand between them. His clothing is disheveled and the hem of his duster coat is ragged. His long, wavy hair looks heavy with water or oil, but is dry. The front strands frame his face, one lock crossing over his brow and nose, and the rest is pulled back in a low tail. His proportions are unnatural: too thin, too long. Beside him, Florian stands in Victorian-like finery, knee britches and stockings, heeled shoes, waistcoat, fluffy cravat, lace-trimmed full-sleeved and high-necked shirt, and bell-tailed justaucorps. He glares up at Johann, his mouth pushed to one side, but a hint of a smirk is tucked into one corner of his mouth. The likeness of a lightning bolt is beside him, in line with his eyes, as though leaping from them. He is petite, delicate, with artfully-tousled curly hair. Smaller (blocking and refined): Johann in this same outfit, grinning and laughing down at Florian with his elbow rested atop Florian’s head. A dripping speech bubble contains a heart. Florian, arms crossed, glares up at him. Florian wears the same ensemble, minus coat and cravat. Rather than heels he wears flat slippers. His sleeves are voluminous, making his shoulders look broader than they are. Bust (blocking): Florian looking up, eyes wide and sparkling and lips parted. There is a spray of blood across his face. He wears a coat with a large fur collar and mutton-leg sleeves. Bust (blocking and refined): Johann strangling himself. His eyes are huge, mouth open and half-smiling. His pupils have tiny hearts in them. His bones glow under his skin. A dripping speech bubble reads “choke.”
Ver. 2 - sketch page. Fanart of Jennifer Giesbrecht’s The Monster of Elendhaven. The taller man is Johann. The shorter man is Florian Leickenbloom. Florian barely comes up to Johann’s shoulder. Same as previous, but with the blocking layer turned off. To better show the cleaned-up refined sketch layer.
Ty for #artshare!
I recently jumped into digital art more, all of these are thru Procreate.
When sketching digitally, I do a layer of blocking (colorful pencil), then refining (usu grey). Sometimes multiple of each!
