I've read the analysis and interpretation of the wonderful pots of grain found intact at the Bronze Age site of #MustFarm. One of the possibilities suggested is "a brewer's mash". I wonder, is this an interrupted (by fire) ale/beer brew? (Other ideas include the usual porridge, stew, gruel etc.) 🏺🤔

Thanks for this! I'm just re-reading Francis Pryor's book on wetland archaeology in the Fens, the one in which he retraces his path from Must Farm towards Flag Fen. Must get along to the Rose Ferraby exhibition next week. Sounds glorious.

... and of course #mustfarm another illustration of the far-reaching impact of the archaeology of the #flagfenbasin
Oh this looks glorious. A little pricey, but not university textbook pricey and the production justifies the cost. Plus, unexpected Lego Must Farm. #mustfarm #flagfen #bronzeage #piledwelling

"Analysis of preserved food remains showed the settlement’s inhabitants were eating meat stews, dumplings and bread, chops of pork and lamb, and – possibly – honey-basted venison. Personal items recovered included decorated textiles and exotic glass beads."
