1st shows chalk grassland fenced & set-aside for ground-nesting birds like #Skylarks, full of #Dandelion & #Cowslip.

A gentle reminder that there are close on 13 million dogs in the UK while our Red-listed #Skylarks have dropped to just 1.6 million territories with the population down 11% since 1995!

Alert & preoccupied Skylarks everywhere, some not keeping to the fenced off areas 🙄 & while most dogs & their owners were well-behaved & under control .. the dogs that is! .. some owners [there are always some!] seemed to think it was ok for their pooches to wander & flush some birds 👇

Scrubby yellowish grass field (sward) with low brown hill curving just at the horizon in and out of view. White clouds in clumps with blue sky above. The clumps of grass & clouds appear to mirror each other. There are no skylarks actually visible.
Here be skylarks.
And some lapwings, a curlew, grouse.
Drive there on my own for the first time in two years.
Without fatigue, I’d get the bus. But without brain metastases, I can drive. Freedom.
