Good. Tony Mills of @AEI is refining the point here that as important as epistemic humility is, decision-making (political and otherwise) is ultimately about making judgment calls. We all must often act in the absence of certainty. #NASEMSciComm
At #NASEMscicomm @laurahelmuth asks about fostering intellectual humility in audiences as well as among scientists.
I suspect there is alignment with literature on how to encourage a "deliberative stance" in discourse & democracy research. Anyone have expertise/refs for that?
I'm always frustrated by framing persuasion as inherently distasteful as opposed to the appropriate & worthy aim of "educating people so they make up their own minds."
I believe confronting & interrogating our persuasive intent is essential to doing it ethically. #NASEMscicomm
