I have been remiss. I got a big stack of books at #ncte2024 with the intent of reading and posting to give some books a bit of media love.

First: The Isle of Ever by @jencalonita.bsky.social
On sale 3.25.25
MG with a game, an inheritance, dashes of history, a legend, and even a pirate. Loved it!

This is the cover of Randy Ribay's book "Everything We Never Had." There is a background silhouetted in yellow of a hand picking a fruit off a tree. Foregrounded on the cover are an image of three male-appearing people, all different generations. They look Filipino/Pinoy. One is a teenager, one is a middle aged adult, and the other is an elder who is walking a dog on a leash.

My relaxing read tonight that I got from #NCTE2024

An extremely blurry selfie of me, a white person with short sandy hair and pale green glasses, wearing a black face mask and a white fleecy button down, with acclaimed author Kwame Alexander. I am holding up an advanced copy of his upcoming middle grade book J vs. K, cocreated with Jerry Craft, and he is holding his Emmy Award for executive producing an adaptation of his verse novel The Crossover on Disney+

Started reading stuff I picked up at #NCTE2024

Starts off a bit heavy handed on the "I'm a girl from a conservative Jewish family" but it settles into a fun read.

I'm not sure about the representation, so
I'll be following up with a few of my students about it.

A picture really IS worth 1,000 words. “Children who draw before they tackle writing tasks produce better writing--it's longer, more syntactically sophisticated and has a greater variety of vocabulary.” - Misty Adoniou, So why not count drawing as time on writing? From my #NCTE2024 presentation

My biggest regret of #NCTE2024 was not getting a picture with @heymrsbond.bsky.social, but I am so so glad I got to meet you. 💖 Sending love and hope this week is full of rest for you.

Using my first new idea from #NCTE2024 in the classroom today. My Craft of Writing students will write an emulation poem based on "Why Fathers Cry at Night" by Kwame Alexander. Thanks to Bridgette Gallagher for the lesson!

Yes! It was really an honor to have our panel get chosen for #NCTE2024 - I heard from other amazing people who pitched several ideas and got turned down. I hope the teachers who attended find some of the ideas we shared useful in their classrooms.

Lovely seeing all the wonderful photos from #ncte2024 so happy for everyone who got to attend. #kidlit authors and presenters, what is one piece of advice you would give some one planning to attend such a conference in the future? Also, out of all the library and teachers conferences, which is best?

I have lots of reviews to write to support the many authors and illustrators at #NCTE2024!

"And yet you'll use a canned curriculum with your readers and writers," I replied.

She was not amused.
