The Nevada Faculty Alliance thanks #NSHE Regents who spoke up and demanded that faculty and NFA be brought to the table for an open, transparent process for any policy changes to our collective bargaining process.
Thanks to solidarity from @aft.org and @aflcio.org, the #NSHE Board of Regents did NOT change the collective bargaining policy. Faculty negotiating contracts now will continue to do so under the current rules! #WhenWeFightWeWin!
Tomorrow is the day! We're ready to show up to support #HigherEd collective bargaining for faculty at #NSHE. Join us as we gather before public comment at 9 am at the Board of Regents meeting!
Time to email your #NSHE Regent or submit public comment:

Tell Regents to "say no" to changing collective bargaining policy in the middle of negotiations!
Op-ed by Nevada State University faculty on the upcoming proposed changes to collective bargaining at #NSHE @thenvindy.com

Four #NSHE institutions are in the middle of collective bargaining negotiations. This Friday, the Board of Regents looks to change the policy: thenevadaindependent.com/article/opin...
NFA has been attempting to get our right to collectively bargain in state law for the past 8 years (#AB191 #NVLeg). Having only an internal #NSHE process means our management makes the rules and can change the rules--even in the middle of contract negotiations.
#CallToAction: Submit public comment and tell #NSHE Board of Regents to oppose changes to Title 4, Chapter 4. Faculty are negotiating new collective bargaining contracts now. Don't change the rules mid-negotiations: nshe.nevada.edu/regents/publ...
The #NSHE Board of Regents opposed having faculty collective bargaining rights in state law with #AB191 at the #NVLeg. Now they want to change their own internal limited bargaining process for faculty: www.nevadafacultyalliance.org/NewsArchive/...
Faculty are negotiating NOW. Oppose the changes.
Nevada Regent Goodman asks whether #NSHE is sensitive to student athletes who she evidently believes are transphobic. @unevadareno.bsky.social student leader answers in public comment. #NvLeg #SpeakingTruthToPower
And Regents did vote to suspend faculty performance pay for FY2026 and FY2027. With no merit steps, no COLAs, the expiration of retention bonuses, and higher employee retirement contributions, faculty pay decreases on July 1, 2025. There is no suspension of inflation in cost of living! #NSHE #NvLeg
And a reminder for us to watch our #NSHE Board of Regents meeting this Thursday and Friday: nshe.nevada.edu/html/wp-cont...
Nevada Faculty Alliance logo, picture of clock running. Text that notes bills that NFA supported in the session
Can't stop, won't stop representing #NSHE faculty in the #NVLeg. In these last days of the session, NFA @nvfa.bsky.social has been in hearing after hearing supporting our priorities! Whether in Carson, Vegas, or on the phone, we've been testifying!
Not been a great #NVLeg for collective bargaining. #AB191 to give the RIGHT to bargain to #NSHE faculty and graduate assistants can't get a hearing because our bosses say they can't afford lots of lawyers. Our other public employee colleagues can't get their contract because bad budget year.
NSHE faculty net relative legislatively funded salaries in real dollars (FY2009=100%) after furloughs, cuts, COLAs, average merit, and retirement contributions. 80.6% in FY2027 compared with FY2009--that is, a 19% decline in the purchasing power of take-home pay.
Without COLAs for the next biennium, funding of salaries for #NSHE faculty will result in 19% less purchasing power of take-home in 2027 compared with 2009, after inflation and higher retirement deductions. #NVLeg
De-weaponization of fiscal notes is another needed appropriations reform, to prevent agency bureaucrats from derailing good, cost-effective bills. #NvLeg #NSHE #PEBP nevadafacultyalliance.org/NewsArchive/... 2/
Our @nsea.bsky.social colleagues might be interested to know the #NSHE Regents think it is insulting to put training requirements in statute with #SB322. K-12 Boards have required professional development. @nvfa.bsky.social still in support of #SB322 in #NVLeg
#NSHE Regents oppose #AB191. Said their own policy (that does not have the force of law) is enough even though only covers academic faculty (not grad workers). Regents can take away what we do have. We need rights in law #NVLeg
In the #NSHE meeting, justifying a large fiscal note was that currently NSHE and institutions do not have the HR resources to EXPLAIN workplace policies (and recognizing workplace rights in law would mean they need to be more accountable to this). This is why we need #AB191 #NVLeg
How to kill a bill at #NVLeg? Have massive fiscal notes. #NSHE Regents just voted to oppose #AB191 citing fiscal notes. @nvfa.bsky.social believes this is "weaponization" of fiscal notes: www.nevadafacultyalliance.org/NewsArchive/...
Update: #NSHE #Regents OPPOSE #AB191. Cited that the BIG Fiscal note (NSHE thinks lots of lawyers are needed) is reason. NSHE has bargained with 3 institutions previously without hiring a law firm. @nvfa.bsky.social will fight on at #NVLeg
Faculty don't just lobby at the #NVLeg but we also have to advocate for our bills for #NSHE #Regent support. #AB191
Here's @nvfa.bsky.social take on the "common sense" of collective bargaining. Thanks to @thisisreno.bsky.social for publishing!

#AB191 is a common sense solution for collective bargaining for #NSHE Nevada faculty and graduate assistants. thisisreno.com/2025/04/nshe... #NvLeg @aaup.bsky.social @aft.org @nvfa.bsky.social
#NSHE is interviewing 3 Chancellor candidates this week. None of them have any community college experience & none of them even mention community colleges in their bios & cover letters. nshe.nevada.edu
Congratulations #NevadaStateUniversity for the successful vote! #NSHE faculty want collective bargaining. AB 191 can help us bargain on an equal playing field #NVLeg
