There was beer .... I'm better at botany than drinking = balance! (or maybe not, depending upon how many pubs Alex plans for next #NYPH)

Great to work with our friends at @metoffice.gov.uk @climatecentreuk.bsky.social & @the-wildlifetrusts.bsky.social to spread the word about how climate change is impacting plant flowering times.
Huge thanks to everyone who took part in #NewYearPlantHunt & collected vital data!

Yes, sadly I don't think it's flowering at the moment so can't be counted for #NYPH .... but you're not the first person (or even 2nd/3rd/4th/5th etc) to mistake the white leaves for flowers

On New Year's Day I cycled around Cambridge and found 23 wild or naturalised flowers in bloom!
Given the snow that's forecast for later this week, I might need to 'borrow' some of these to make #TheWinter10 for next Sunday's #WildflowerHour 🙂

What a great idea - a #NYPH Norwich Pub Crawl!
I have very happy (slightly hazy) memories off an epic week-long pub crawl for Norwich City Of Ale beer festival. Still have my souvenir badges for completing all 7 routes. 😁🍻
Just clocked the year on them....2015.....seems I'm overdue a visit!!!! 😅

The hardy division of #NorfolkFloraGroup shunned a ‘yellow warning’ of ice and snow in favour of the yellow flowers of Buddle.. & 99 other flowering species! The Norfolk uplands produced Fumarias, Muehlenbeckia & Rubus vestitus in unseasonably excellent condition. #NYPH @bsbibotany.bsky.social

Fumaria bastardii on G&A's allotments (not their plot). Not the best time of year to identify these but I have seen it there before and it looks right. F purpurea is in our front garden where it spread unassisted from.next door, where it is a frequent plant. Flowers on it very stunted and small at the moment

Took very few photos on my #NYPH around the southern part of Bradford-on-Avon today. This Snapdragon was the showiest plant on my list of 49 species.

A bonus perk of doing a #NewYearPlantHunt is the other wildlife (fungi, bees, birds, the urban fox observing today's Leicester Hunt) you might see while looking for flowers.
One aim of #NYPH is to see how other wildlife might be impacted by changes in flowering times: more about this to follow ;-)
