Love the concept of #NationalNestboxWeek. We were at a local gathering of community recreation groups last Saturday, and our #Landcare Group stall featured nest boxes made by members of a Ballarat Men's Shed, and plans for nestboxes. Robust in design, but not as architecturally stylish as yours!

It's National Nest Box Week!🪺
Over the years, our nest boxes have seen a lot of action! They offer safe, sheltered places to raise young. By providing extra nesting sites, more woodland birds thrive and our local ecosystem is kept healthy and diverse.

4 new bird boxes are up! A range of sizes, the smaller diameter holes are perfect for blue tits, whilst the larger ones can become home for wrens and blackbirds🐦⬛
This National Nest Box Week, come check them out 👀

On #NationalNestBoxWeek it was also timely to hear about a Barn Owl (picked up wet/water-logged by a farmer in Wressle) that was kindly dried out overnight and successfully released the following morning, as it now lives to tell (hunt) another day 🦉
Great task with our volunteers at our NNR Base earlier this week (building our new pre-release pens for our Corncrake reintroduction project) - it might be a bit of a stretch for #NationalNestBoxWeek 😆, but we are hoping to provide these special birds with a temporary 'home' in the #LDV 🐤
Or, if like most of us, you have a small garden, you can still help our local population of birds by providing homes for species such as House Sparrows, Swifts & House Martins - these can be made or are widely available online & can make a real difference #NationalNestBoxWeek 🐦🪺
Whilst most of our new owl boxes are now spoken for and will soon be put up, we do have a limited number still available for suitable sites across the #LDV, so if you're a landowner and have an appropriate place for one, please do get in touch #NationalNestBoxWeek 🦉🪺🔨🪛
Unfortunately, like many sites across the country, Barn Owls in the #LDV now rely heavily on nest boxes - 89% of pairs used them in 2023, up from 47% in 2000, & with ash dieback reducing natural sites, boxes are vital, so we're doing what we can to help out #NationalNestBoxWeek 🦉🪺🔨🪛

#WildBird numbers have declined by about 20% in England since 1970. Birds need places to nest - you can help by putting up nestboxes in #NationalNestboxWeek. At www.nestboxweek.com see how to make a nestbox or the best one to buy, where/when to fix it & how to look after it.

Good morning #Hedgewatch Team. It's still cold, but dry, so Brock decided to show baby Rupert the beauty of the woodland behind HQ. They’re going to have a little picnic and while out there, are checking more nests as it's still #NationalNestBoxWeek.
What are you up to? 🌳💚

An infographic titled “Nest Boxes for Robins & Wrens” shows a wooden open-front nest box positioned in dense vegetation. An inset image of a Robin highlights one of the species that benefit. The text advises placing open-front boxes low to the ground (no higher than 2m) and in well-hidden, sheltered locations to provide protection from predators.
This #NationalNestboxWeek, remember not all birds nest the same way!
Here's a few options to get you started...
Robins and Wrens like to keep hidden, tucking their nests away in dense cover.
An open-fronted box placed low down and out of sight is just their style.

#NationalNestBoxWeek 2026 will be celebrated from tomorrow to 21st. This annual event, organised by the #BritishTrustforOrnithology, aims to encourage people to put up nest boxes to support the conservation of native birds. Make your own bird nest box here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=hRxL...

Although #NationalNestboxWeek finished on Friday; I have just thrown together a couple of quick nestboxes to replace 2 that I have taken down this weekend.
I wish to take the others with me when I move, so they needed replacing before they were occupied.
Unfortunately, we don’t have such an event in Poland, so we’re joining #NationalNestboxWeek abroad!
