One side of an off-white, fibrous pod like thing that is shaped like a flattened egg. The surface looks smooth with veins running lengthwise and some brown splotches. Dense short fibers emerge from a seam along the side. The pod is lying on the blade of a digging knife that has a measurement scale that indicates it’s a little over 3 inches long and about 2 inches wide.

The other side of the mysterious pod, also shown on the digging knife for scale. It’s very similar to the other side, but has almost no brown splotches and has some dark dirt stuck to it.

One of the narrow sides of the mystery pod, held between a person’s thumb and fingertips, in front of a wet rock. This edge is fairly smooth, as opposed to the other edge which has many dense fibers emerging along a “seam” (not pictured). There is a small hole in the edge, showing a bit of the interior which is also off-white but otherwise without anything apparently notable.

New nature ID question:

A close-up photo of a nice assortment of lichens growing on dark brown tree bark with long, prominent grooves on it. There's a big, fuzzy-looking branching pale blue lichen in the center and a tinier version of it to the left, with some scaly pale blue lichens around the edges, and crusty yellow lichens filling in some of the gaps.
