Photo of two pages of a journal with tiny writing and ink and watercolor drawings: of a star magnolia bud as well as an oak branch with galls on it and a bunch of harvested galls in a pile.

I’m working on a two page March Nature collage in my sketchbook. Progress so far…

Pencil drawing of a Plover bird surrounded by seashells.
Pencil drawing of a Dark-Eyed Junco perched on a branch.
I’ve been struggling with an art/creative block since the Autumn, but I’ve recently gotten back into doing simple graphite drawings hoping to find that creative spark again.
Below are a Plover I saw in New Brunswick and a Dark Eyed Junco

Day 100 of me attempting to birdwatch on horseback. The hawks are usually so focused on hunting that they hardly notice me riding past, while the bluebirds are curious enough to stay and watch as I go by.

My favorite tools for botanical illustration 🌿
The art supplies I use again and again in my practice.😊
I talk a bit more about them inside the Botanical Sketchbook Club.

Three circular sketches in black ink, one for each full moon in Jan, Feb., and March. Somehow clouds and trees, with Feb showing Jupiter.
Something simpler. I have created a set of 3” round cutouts so that I can sketch each full moon this year. These are the first three. I make notes on the back about time of day, weather, etc. It is a quick way to do some nature journaling over time. 🎨🐡🌕 #naturejournal #fullmoons2026
Skizzenbuch, man sieht u.a.

Two pencil sketches, one of an Emory oak twig and one of a female Costa’s hummingbird feeding its fledgling
An unfinished page but getting to see a female Costa’s feeding her fledgling was SO cool. The baby was such a cute little fluffball sitting patiently on a twig, waiting for mom to come back with breakfast. 🥹

Colored pencil drawings of a ponderosa pine lit by dawn light and a twig of creosote
Colored pencil drawings of a tuber anemone, a lupine species, a saguaro cactus with woodpecker holes, and a cactus wren
Some Arizona birding trip sketchbook pages. I’m trying to get into a daily sketchbook habit- drawing more being less worried about making each one perfect. 🪶

A ballpoint pen drawing of a hickory tree, a strip of its bark peeled toward the viewer. The bark is rough and shaggy, but where it has peeled away is a much smoother surface
Three ballpoint pen sketches. In the top left corner, the base of a burr oak. In the top right corner, a stump with puffball mushrooms and another, flatter mushroom on the exposed core, and various types of moss growing on the bark. Across the bottom, a rough sketch of a log with shelf mushrooms.
Being outside so much this last week has called me back to art. The trees are my inspiration, strong forms made over long time periods. Here are a couple of tree drawings i've made in the last week

So excited to share some of the work created during week 1 of our SSE funded Skirling Nature Journalling programme! This week we created maps of our palettes, so participants could learn more about colours and prepare to create their own works 🎨🌟

New Camassia Quamash sticker! I recall seeing a meadow of camas as a teen & thinking it was lupine. I didn't understand the details, but I knew to take it all in because it was important.
Recently added to Etsy, along with 3 other sticker designs.
