A photograph of a Peacock butterfly that has richly coloured velvety orange red wings which are open as it basks in the sunshine. Its wings have the distinctive iridescent markings, some resembling 'eyes' as a defence mechanism similar to those found on a peacocks tail hence its name. It is feeding on the flowers of Erysimum Bowles Mauve which it loves. The background is blurred, predominately pale green with splash of pink from the flowers behind. Taken in the South East, UK
