The river is shadowed by the steep canyon walls it has etched out for centuries. In the distance are red rock mountains.

Colorado River Wisdom ~ by Robert J Tiess

Five million years of sheer persistence
coursing through its arteries,
this river chisels,

skims and whisks
in millimeter increments

across the plateau,

ancient stones
eroded slow

while fissures vein,
cleave into grooves that form the gorge:

Grand Canyon's chasm widening.

From tributaries to the sea,
old wisdom's lodged deep in this rock,
aged sediments of ancient truths
deposited in caverns,
cracks,
abandoned hollows,
vacant days
where surges urge deliverance
past impasse toward complete release:

those wild flows just nature tames,
reshapes, retains,
lets swell beyond
our inclinations of control
and stagnant dams of human thought.

Come listen to the canyon now:

it gathers every echo, yes,

returning cries,
our causeless calls,

but have you heard its poetry,
its history, philosophy?

It vibrates with the river's voice,
which testifies to patience, grace,
devotion, motion, diligence

—that hardness shall be worn away,
ground down,
diminished
over time,

not with disorder,
forces,
war,

but subtle currents,
pressures welling
till they shake
and soon persuade
the rigid it may slacken,

lapse,

oust boundaries,

become the path
to send whatever means to stream
and liberate or saturate

through barren valleys,
fading lakes,
the splintered deserts of the earth,

or feed what heals,
must congeal,

immerse,
inter,

or resurrect
what's dying to be borne again.

Standing at the edge of Marble Canyon between the Navajo Bridges with the Colorado River below.
A beautiful view unfolding in the distance with passing rain clouds crowning the Vermillion Cliffs!

The original, and now pedestrian only, Navajo Bridge.
It spans Marble Canyon, hundreds of feet above the Colorado River and leads to the very scenic Vermillion Cliffs on the Pariah Plateau in Arizona.

California condor K6 opens up. It’s massive wings to capture the sun as it enters the canyon. Always amazing to capture one of the most rare birds/animals on the planet. #CaliforniaCondors #Birds #BirdsOfBlueSky #Arizona #VisitArizona #NavajoLand #NavajoBridge

One day I'll get to see the Condors fly there.

Always love coming to the area, it's so peaceful out there.
