A Great Blue Heron moves slowly in a shallow portion of the Haw River in the Jordan Lake Dam Tailrace in Moncure, North Carolina. The river level is low - the water doesn't quite reach the bird's knees. The heron is facing upstream. The near leg is straight, while the rear leg is lifted, with the toes dragging in the river, creating a small wake in the water rushing past.
