The oldest portion was built in 1811 by Arora Buttles. In 1816 Orange Johnson, a hornsmith, bought the property adding the Federal-style wing.

In the 19th century, Ohio had no safety laws for railroad bridges. In 1879, a bridge over the Big Walnut Creek near Sunbury collapsed as a Cleveland, Mt. Vernon & Columbus RR freight train crossed. Working on more material to assign for my #ohiohistory class. I currently have a brief newsreel about the 1934 Auto-Lite Strike in Toledo and I want to expand what's there. Looking at Korth and Beagle's oral history I Remember Like Today: The Auto-Lite Strike of 1934 (Michigan State U Press 1988)
