"Love is like the sea. It’s a moving thing, but still and all, it takes its shape from the shore it meets, and it’s different with every shore."
Zora Neale Hurston, born January 1st, 1891 in Notasulga, Alabama, attended Howard University (Washington D.C.) from 1921 to 1924, and earned a scholarship to Barnard College (New York City) where she studied Anthropology. Her stories reflect Black life in the deep south and traditional folklore.
On January 7, 2025, Ms. Hurston's historical novel "The Life of Herod the Great" was posthumously published. "Herod" continues the story introduced in "Moses, Man of the Mountain" which strives to redefine King Herod of Judaea, normally portrayed as a brutal and tyrannical leader. Using notes and letters in which Ms. Hurston outlined her thorough research of Herod's life, Dr. Deborah G. Plant, an African American Literature and Africana Studies Independent Scholar, completed the book in 2024.
📗Check it out! You can find "The Life of Herod the Great" at the downtown Flagstaff City-Coconino County Public Library, call number F HURSTON, ZORA NEALE.
