Since today is the first Friday of the year, it’s time to knock off work a tad early to relax at home with a good new novel - #OurEvenings by the wonderful Alan Hollinghurst - which was a #Christmas present from my father.

An excerpt from Alan Hollinghurst’s Our Evenings, in which a young boy coming to terms with his queerness quietly realizes that his mother is in a lesbian relationship: “Mum and Esme kept separate addresses until I left school, and then, much as conscientious parents delay a divorce for the sake of the children, they did the opposite, and moved in together.”

The wordless coming out between a mother and her son in the early 1960s. I’m going to miss this book so much.
