A round fountain sits in front of and at the base of stairs to Peles Castle in Romania. The fountain is made of stone and has three stacked tiers, each smaller towards the top. From our angle, we see three nude statues. Two are sitting on the middle tier of the fountain and are twisted into evocative poses that are often seen in nude statues of that era. Their heads are twisted, looking up, arms are on their hips, torso is also twisted, as are the legs of one statue. The top figure has his legs crossed, torso twisted, and his head is looking to the side at a serpent's tail he is holding up with his right hand. The rest of the serpent twists behind the man, and the head can be seen emerging from the back. The stone of the upper two tiers is more of a grey colour, while the base level is a lighter-colored marble or stone. In the background is Peles Castle that has a Gothic and Tudor style to it.

Narrow, dark wooden stairs start off with a curve to the left, then continue upwards, turning to the right at the top. The walls are white plaster. At the base is a round column newel post, also white plaster with a round, dark wooden top on which sits a large brass jug.

The sun is just peeping through heavy clouds to light up the castle. The sky is heavy with clouds. Went there with friends to see the display of costumes from Wolf Hall but spent a lot of time walking round the stunning grounds.

The Tudor Hever Castle, childhood home of Anne Boleyn, with the stream that leads from the lake into the moat. The weather was changeable on Monday and I took this just before a downpour.

It is a tidal island with a causeway that floods at high tide. As well as the medieval castle there is a church and cobbled streets of a historic village. The castle has terraced subtropical gardens.

The tower on top of the medieval castle at St Michael’s Mount, Marazion, Cornwall usually flies the Union Jack and sometimes the Cornish Flag.
