Several cocoons of the braconid species Cotesia astrarches stacked on the underside of a Geranium molle leaf.
Cotesia astrarches (Braconidae: Microgastrinae). These parasitic wasps are endoparasitoids of the Brown Argus (Aricia agestis).
Not all of the rescued Brown Argus larvae made it to pupation. These tiny cocoons, found on the underside of a Geranium leaf, indicated some had been parasitized. Less than 10 days later several Cotesia astrarches, a known parasitoid of the butterfly emerged.

There are over 6000 species of parasitic wasp in the uk, very little is known about many of them, which is strangely pleasing to me! This is one of them from my Oxford garden , any help iding much appreciated #entomology #macro #parasiticwasps #uknature #inverts

Velvet ants (Family Mutillidae) aren’t actually ants—they’re wasps. Wingless, hairy females scurry across the ground in search of bee or wasp nests to parasitize.

I do like the Ichneumon family but they are almost Impossible to identify to species. Thanks to Dr Gavin Broad of the Natural History Museum for suggesting Glypta Woersi.

Just checked on some Large White pupae and it seems that I was lucky to witness the emergence of these tiny green parasitic wasps, but having trouble identifying them because they don’t seem to be the usual Cotesia glomerata, so if anyone can tell me that’d be great!
