Gulf Fritillary Caterpillar (Dione vanillae, top) versus Variegated Fritillary Caterpillar (Euptoieta claudia, bottom). They are on their larval host plant, Passiflora incarnata. The Gulf Fritillary caterpillar (top) is all orange with black spikes. The Variegated Fritillary caterpillar (bottom) is the same shade as orange with black spikes but has two predominant stripes on its back with alternating patches of white and black colors. They are similar in size.
