Fine point of pedantry: the Artemis II mission will *not* 'escape Earth's gravity'. It will dally with the moon, but the moon itself is still bound by Earth's gravity. #Artemis #moon

A snippet from the Guardianโs live blog on the Middle East. โข Even as Donald Trump claimed productive negotiations to end the war were ongoing with Tehran, Iran's relentless bombardment of the Gulf states showed no sign of relenting. Kuwait and Bahrain were both hit with damaging strikes on Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning, as the patience of the Gulf states after rebuffing constant attacks for almost a month begun to wear thin.

Relentless bombardment shows no sign of relenting, you say?
Huh.

Today's, slightly pedantic, grammar/vocabulary query. How and why has it become fashionable to use adverbs with no intrinsic indication of size or speed to imply something is big and fast?
Examples include: at scale, at pace, at speed. There are probably others. They don't mean what the [โฆ]
"Though the moon had not yet set, the sky in the east was stained with light...."
What is that "though" doing there? These two states are not inherently contradictory! Either the moon is at a phase where it normally sets at or after dawn OR it isn't, and the moon shouldn't be up at first light [โฆ]

Quote from "Seattle-based professor Daniel Bessner" about the poor grammar in the Epstein files:
โIt was nihilistic almost in its total disinterest in communicating".
It's just a shame he didn't use 'disinterest' correctly (I would have used 'lack of interest' there).

Windscreen and windshield came from the early 1900s when those in the front seats of early motor vehicles had stones and insects flung into their faces.

Generally speaking, extortion is the act of getting something (such as money, property, or services) from someone through violence, threats, intimidation, abuse of authority, or other forms of coercion. For example, if a person threatens to burn down a store unless the owner pays them money, thatโs extortion. On the other hand, blackmail is the act of getting money from someone through extortion. To blackmail someone is to use extortionโsuch as threats, violence, or abuse of authorityโto get money from them. Frequently, the blackmailer threatens to reveal embarrassing or incriminating information about the person being blackmailed. For example, if a person demands that a celebrity pay them money not to reveal evidence of the celebrity committing adultery, thatโs blackmail.
