The Downy Woodpecker is North America's smallest woodpecker. It's primarily black and white with a broad white stripe down its back and white spotting on black wings. Males have a distinctive red patch on the back of their head. They are widely distributed across most of the United States and Canada in various wooded habitats, including suburban areas. Downy Woodpeckers are active, acrobatic foragers, often seen on small branches or feeders, consuming insects, seeds, and berries. They are generally year-round residents. 2.5 Flash (Edited)
