In one pingo a few rafts of, I think, Thread-leaved Water Crowfoot (Ranunculus trichophyllus)?
Also, in others, quite a bit of Celery-leaved Buttercup (Ranunculus sceleratus) not yet in flower.

More pingo portraits: one reflecting the Alder trees wading in it; one flanked by Marsh Thistle & Hemp Agrimony; one floating Yellow Water-lilies; & one with a huge patch of Wavy Bittercress (Cardamine flexuosa) #pingos #brecks #breckland #norfolk #Stonebridge #Wildflowerhour

Lovely to be back today in pingoland at the magical fairyland that is #StowBedon Common (if fairies existed, this would be their refugia).

Back in pingoland - #GreatHockham Hills and Holes - now with Chiffchaffs but not a single woodcock (maybe they all left by the full moon). Still came across no signs of amphibians. The nettles (to my chagrin) growing by the minute.

Minus of having teen daughter: returns borrowed camera SANS memory card.
Plus of having daughter doing geograpy A level: informs that I actually went to 'ognip' land; an ognip is the pool left after the melting of the ice lens that causes #pingos - the periglacial domed hills 4/4

I'd have thought the #Pingos of #StowBeddon Common in the #Norfolk #Brecks would be amphibian heaven (if I was one, such a magical wonderland would surely put me in the mood!) Maybe the excellent @PondRiverStream management underway will do the trick http://bit.ly/2UfUgTW 3/4

On #StowBeddon Common peered & plodged around dozens of #pingos of all shapes, sizes & character vainly searching for 1st frogspawn of the year (now a mallard pair is in residence on our pond we've nothing but newt spawn). Some amazing old alders clearly used to wetter times. 2/4
