Signs of rising planetary strain highlight need for accelerated climate targets In their paper published in Science of the Total Environment, researchers from IIASA and Lviv Polytechnic National University in Ukraine presented a novel approach to measure and understand human pressure on planet Earth. The researchers explored how carbon emissions can be translated into measures of "stress" and "strain" to derive new insights into how the planet is changing.
