Very lucky to be at #PorlockMarsh in #Somerset at high tide and sunset on Saturday. The salt marsh floods when the tides are particularly high and sometimes that coincides with sunset or sunrise. Gorgeous.

A lone dead tree emerges from the water of a flooded salt marsh. The orange sun sets in the background with moody clouds overhead.

Maybe not internationally renowned or iconic, but this tidal salt marsh on old farmland in Somerset is very iconic in these parts.

Here is Greater Sea-spurrey at Porlock Marsh & its flowers photobombing leaves of Sea Lavender & Sea Saltwort.
Also some Small Cord-grass (Spartina martima) among the dominant Sea Purslane of the #saltmarsh.

At the top of the saltmarsh at #PorlockMarsh, some Sea Beet, Common Orache & a mixture of the two I think, the Sea Beet very red.

On the shingle bank, Fennel.

At #PorlockMarsh esp. happy to see old friends: Sea Aster just coming into bloom, Sea Arrow-grass (Triglochin palustris), Sea Plantain (Plantago maritima) & could this be Glaucous Common Glasswort (Salicornia obscura) or just Glasswort S. europaea #WildflowerID #DaisyFamily

The 1996 storm breach of shifting shingle bank in Porlock Bay was not repaired, allowing daily access to the tides & the natural restoration of a superb saltmarsh.
An oak at edge of Porlock Weir survives shingle encroachment.
