A black and white landscape photo of the Grand Canyon. Using Snapseed, I converted it to black and white. Sharpened the photo and cropped it. I added a tiny bit of purple to the black for the distant landscape and a sepia tone in the landscape in the foreground. In my mind I was thinking of a horseback rider from the 1800's finally reaching this vista. I gave the photo a look of that era of photography and coloring.

After cropping, in photoshop i went Image > Adjustments > Black & white
then i used topaz labs Adjust- exposure Correction
back to adjustment > curves, to give it a nice S shape
adjustment > Exposure to bump the gamma up a little, dial back exposure a hair
adjustment > levels, to fix the clipping
resize 2160x1440

I imported his original into Photoshop, used Nik 7 to desaturate it, used a preset of my own to intensify, made the tone curve more s like, added Red sensitivity, Copper tinted.

Very kind of you, Robyn, TY.

Tbh, I prefer my first #PostProcess cropped version. It was abstract, blue, furry, and fuzzy, lol, almost like a weird macro shot of a hairy spider's gaping blue maw (mouth) and hairy legs. 😆 But then, I'm a sucker for the Rorschach aspects of abstract photography. 💙

I edited this in Photoshop. I brought up the contrast and increased the reddish glow to look more like it is later in the day. I put in a black/transparent gradient at the bottom to hide the protruding rocks and to additionally make it look later in the day. I put in a different sky, also to fit more with the feeling of dusk.

Black and white image of the Grand Canyon. The foreground is darker, perhaps in the shadow of the setting sun, and the background grows lighter, still illuminated by the sun. The sky has a gradation/vignette that grows darker near the edges of the image.

I made my edits in Snapseed:
▫️Used black and white tool
▫️HDR Scape
▫️Crop
▫️Adjusted a number of tonal adjustments (contrast, etc)

A photograph of the Grand Canyon which has been edited to appear it could have been taken at dusk.

The image overall had the exposure shifted down, black point and shadows darkened, and clarity slightly sharpened. Two further linear gradient masks were added in Affinity's Development Studio. The first starts slightly below the upper edge of the frame and ends within the more orange-tone section of the canyon's side. The second runs from the bottom up into the orange-toned area.

The upper mask was initially aimed at adding some drama to the sky with colour, but was extended into the canyon edge eventually. The white balance was heavily tinted purple, but left on the warm side. The result is deep purple at the top, but the canyon still has the interesting oranges that over saturating it pulled up.

The white balance in the lower mask was shifted significantly cooler and the tint adjusted towards purples. Exposure and shadows were also heavily lowered.

The development masks stack on top of any other edits made to the overall master image, but are gradients so the effects are most significant at the upper and lower edges of the frame in this case. The orange section is going to have some level of interference from the master edits and both mask layers as they overlap slightly.

A split-field monochrome interpretation of the Grand Canyon, originally photographed by @rjrock.bsky.social, processed in ON1 with a wet plate texture and low-key tonal treatment. Created in response to a brief to remove the colour — high key, low key, noir, cyanotype, platinum — where does your eye go? The bilateral symmetry creates a landscape that feels lost in time, like an old postcard of a place that doesn't exist, but might.

Thinking: Stripping the colour made the canyon feel lost in time and pushed me to lean into: "An old postcard of a place that doesn't exist, but might."!

A playful interpretation of the tonal shift challenge within East Coast Kin. An xpan crop of the original with part of it flipped and layered above, like a mirror of the Grand Canyon. Colours are mostly false made by various filters.

A little 2001 take on the tonal shift challenge. I don't usually indulge my inner freak like this, so it was fun to explore well outside my usual toolset. #ECK #tonalshift #eastcoastkin #postprocess

I prefer vertical framing - so i did a crop in photoshop then lowered exposure and bumped up contrast... then transferred over to Snapseed for a vintage cross process bw with a faded dreamy feel... Thank you Rock & Jason 🥰

Photo of The Grand Canyon taken by @rjrock.bsky.social and processed by me to look as though it was shot in warm daylight.

The image was processed in Darktable using my “daytime” style that I am working on. I increased the exposure because I’ve found subsequent steps tend to darken it a little, then I did some work in Darktable’s Colour Balance RGB, Colour Zones, Filmic, and Velvia modules. I did some work in the Local Contrast module, and then added a graduated density filter weighted towards orange and lowered its opacity a little.

Thanks to @rjrock.bsky.social for sharing the original photo for this processing challenge. This was my first time using Photoshop. As a scifi fan, I played with the Tritone settings, aiming for something that would remind me of an illustration of an alien landscape. #ECK #PostProcess #TonalShift

1st try at this new challenge. 😅

First, I sharped the image for improved visibility. Next, I reduced the light balance to maintain focus on the mountains. I then enhanced the contrast between the sky & landscape as I felt the mtns. were too dark.

"A dramatic landscape photograph processed to resemble the surface of Mars. Layered red and pink canyon walls recede into a hazy amber horizon beneath a flat salmon-colored sky with a faint glow on the left horizon. Originally a Grand Canyon image shot at dusk with HDR processing and noise reduction applied in camera. Color graded in Lightroom with white balance pushed to 8500K, HSL panel used to shift blues and purples toward warm reds, and a split tone curve adding warm amber highlights against cool violet shadows. Sky replaced and graded in Photoshop using a hue/saturation adjustment to shift the original lavender sky to dusty salmon. Atmospheric haze added with an overlay blend mode layer painted along the horizon. Shadow tones shifted from cool purple toward warm brown using a luminosity mask and color balance adjustment targeting only the darkest tones. Graduated fog and atmospheric compression applied in Nik Color Efex. Distant cliffs softened with selective Gaussian blur painted through a mask to simulate Martian atmospheric haze and push depth. Foreground rocks removed with a tight crop to eliminate the most Earth-like elements. Titled Candor Chasma after a real side canyon of Valles Marineris — one of the largest canyon systems in the solar system, stretching 4,000 kilometers across Mars."

This time, no heavy cropping, no abstract goal. Instead, lots of tuning, lots of contrast manipulation repeated over & over, & WB tint/temp changes to get a purple-brown hue. #Photography
