Morning light spills softly across the Colorado foothills, illuminating the feathery seed heads of prairie smoke (Geum triflorum) near Denver. Each filament glows in the early sun, fine hairs catching the pale gold of the high-plains light like strands of silk. This native wildflower of Colorado’s mountain meadows and prairies transforms after blooming into airy, smoke-like plumes that drift and shimmer with every breeze. I took this couple months back in Denver. I love these little flowers. Every time I go I try to get a picture of them. This one actually turned out decent.
