i was a #preterm baby.
i got ME/CFS (which overlaps with #LongCovid) as a teenager.
did you know #covid and many other viruses that are circulating right now are extremely bad for all babies, none of whom can wear a respirator?

JAMA Network Open graphic about drying preterm infants before plastic wrapping at birth. It includes population (174 males, 180 females), intervention (354 infants randomized), findings, settings/locations (21 tertiary hospitals in Italy).
RCT: Drying before plastic wrapping did not increase normothermia at #neonatal intensive care unit admission for very #preterm infants, and mortality was not different compared with immediate wrapping without drying.

We found big gaps in use of 2 effective, cheap, simple #antenatal treatments to protect #preterm babies. In theory they should be accessible to all mothers, in all resource settings. About 3/4 eligible mothers get them in richer countries, but only about 1/2 in poorer countries bit.ly/40sNIon
JAMA Pediatrics displays RCT results: Prophylactic Treatment of Patent Ductus Arteriosus With Acetaminophen. Population: 403 males, 375 females. Intervention: 778 infants. Findings: Survival at 36 weeks, Acetaminophen 66.2% vs Placebo 63.6%.
Among extremely #preterm infants, prophylactic acetaminophen for patent ductus arteriosus accelerated ductal closure but did not increase survival without severe #neonatal morbidity at 36 weeks and was associated with higher rates of cholestasis.
