A screenshot from a source port of Quake 3: Arena, featuring a battle in a confined stone and wood room with several hallways branching from a central point, with stairs descending down towards a lower half-floor underneath us. A rocket zips by a shower of gibs as a player named Fanatical Moose hops past as Sarge holding a railgun. Around some ceiling lights down one of the hallways is a subtle glow.

I was poking around a source port called Quake3e last night. The new renderer can add subtle UT99-style coronal glows to light sources.

It amuses me how much of a tell that is for UT99 environments. Q3A's feel shifts dramatically towards UT99 with these flares turned on.

I forgot how much fun just plain #deathmatch could be. For no particular reason, launched #hl2dm tonight and found a server with half a dozen real people on it. Had a blast mopping it for the next half hour. Gotta check for life in #hldm and whatever the modern version of #q3a is.

“hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh” is a valid Quake 3 Arena CD key. I found it accidentally when I was a teenager.
