Our discussion group at #RBMS24 was a bit unsure about the sustainability of the future of this kind of service with it going strong some places, and tapering out at others.
Turns out presenting at a national conference is less scary to me than meeting with my dean. #RBMS24
Now attending #RBMS24 "Meta-Momentum: Empowering Collaborative Metadata Creation in Special Collections Libraries" with Ana Rodriguez, Laura Doublet, Stephanie Luke, and Sarah Kortemeier. 📜
Caitlin Goodman on incremental, collaborative collections work, in a wonderful #RBMS24 panel on slow librarianship: "Nobody is going to write a press release about this, but it brings library workers joy"
Yeah, they mentioned before the opening plenary that #RBMS24 is the official hashtag this year
Wait is the tag #RBMS24 send help idk this platform 👵🏻

A virtual post-it board waiting to be filled in. The title is, "Where do we want to go?" with three sub questions. One, do we have the capacity and staff to continue serving audiences virtually? Two, who do we need to be reaching and why are they not currently being served? Three, why offer virtual services, and how do we justify them (if at all)?
Looking for an #RBMS24 session this afternoon/evening? Join @librarycolleen.bsky.social and I for a discussion on virtual services after the "return to normal," feat. my hard-won Jamboard replacement and (hopefully) lots of ideas sharing!

Screenshot from one of my virtual class sessions with U Iowa SpecColl. I'm using my iPad to talk to the MLIS students about how I greet a typical in person session.
Stop by Emergency Response, or Permanent Change? : The Future of Pandemic-Era Services at #RBMS24 to discuss! 3:30PM Pacific today!
My daughter's school didn't do any kind of 8th grade graduation. The students took the initiative and planned their own party!
8th grade style planning:
24 hours' notice.
Thank goodness #rbms24 recordings are available after the event.
Okay, I remembered the password!!!! Just in time to see your #RBMS24 comments!
Not all institutions prioritize in-house professional development, so my big take away is all the positive outcomes for the staff when something like this is in place! #RBMS24
at #rbms24 this week. if you see me, stop and say hiya!
A mug with a gold and blue image of New York State held up in front of a laptop with RBMS session open on my cluttered kitchen table
Hey #RBMS24 💜 coming to y’all from Brooklyn this week
I’m so bad at this app but trying to be more present here this week since we can’t hang irl and I really miss y’all a lot!
Let’s chat about what we’re learning and thinking about (even if I’m struggling to think well in sweaty conditions)
Here's an article about the ARCH program from 2023. #RBMS24
library.princeton.edu/news/general...
Part of the application process (before the session described above) is reading two articles and responding to the arguments in the articles. Interesting. #RBMS24
They read Jesse Erickson's book chapter, "The Gentleman's Ghost" and watched a video about theft to prepare for the session. #RBMS24
Sarconi speaking about how the curriculum needs to spark joy, which abandons the teacher-centered role. Students had to visit a special collections/archives reading room before visiting and then teach each other. #RBMS24
Vo is presenting their recent insights: Less classroom type lecture and primarily focused on hands-on work designed around the question, "What does ethical stewardship of archival collections or historical records mean?"
#RBMS24
Another commonality between the two panels is the vital role that coordinators play in making good placements possible.
#RBMS24
In both the plenary and this Princeton talk about student placements, being locked out, doors being locked, or key cards not working has been brought up as a major barrier for student workers and there's a metaphorical resonance to those statements.
#RBMS24
I haven't live-tweeted on Bluesky much and I broke my thread somehow. I will make separate threads for each panel from here on out. #RBMS24
We discussed my question in the post-plenary discussion about how community archives work exists in-between archives, special collections, museums, and how we define "archives" in this case. #RBMS24
Q&A question asking for details about agreements. The agreement is between the lab and community partner, not with "the university." All post-custodial work, no transfer of collections.
#RBMS24
Sadaf Melecki describing their internship experience & recommendations: "Even community archives can exploit people." Learning to speak up and being supported in that advocacy and everyone being very open to criticism. Space to debrief when encountering harmful material. <- Person first. #RBMS24
I'll be attending #RBMS24 virtually this week! Please don't be a stranger: say hi on the platform, on here, or via my work email--I miss being able to casually (re)meet people!

Just in time for #RBMS24! Alex does amazing work!
They are speaking about the UCLA Community Archives Lab communityarchiveslab.ucla.edu 📜 and include the co-director and two graduate students who work there from the paid opportunities made available at the lab. #RBMS24
First up for #RBMS24 today is the plenary session, "Approaching Liberatory Praxis though Community Archives," with speakers Jame L. Epps, Sadaf Meleki, and Thuy Vo Dang.
Thank you. I’ve added #RBMS24 (the Rare Books and Manuscripts Section - of the ACRL - conference) to the list of Library Conferences on BlueSky. (Reposting as I got the hashtag completely wrong before!)
