I'm really sad at the passing of #RayBrooks, who occupied a particular spot in the formation of my imagination. His voice was beautiful - like many people my age I was hooked by Mr Benn - but I was also totally captivated by his looks, his capacity for slightly ineffectual loucheness. Go well.

RIP Ray Brooks. I loved ❤️Mr Benn and used to watch him with my late mum when I came home from school for my lunch. He had an amazing speaking voice as well as being a very talented actor. Loved him in the 1982-93 BBC TV series ‘Growing Pains’ #rip #raybrooks #bbc

I was completely entranced by Mr Benn as a child and it was endlessly magical because the voice of Ray Brooks made it so.
He was also an extremely versatile actor and I remember him in PD James’ Death Of An Expert Witness.

As a child I loved Mr Benn, and his narration was so calming and comforting. I couldn't watch him in EasteEnders because of that.
