Rocket Report: SpaceX’s 500th Falcon launch; why did UK’s Reaction Engines fail? #Technology #Business #SpaceTech #SpaceX #Falcon500 #ReactionEngines
Still, even months on after the dust has settled, I find it desperately sad that #ReactionEngines ran out of money. What they were working on, and so close to achieving, was so impressive... www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
So #RollsRoyce, you pulled the plug on #ReactionEngines. Alan Bond, who I heard speak on the 'One stage to orbit' proposal, was in the league of Frank Whittle and Barnes Wallis. If the Roll Royce share price is the only motivation for your Engineers then beware you do not end up like Boeing.
Yes, it was Brexit that took place in UK/EU/ESA that almost canned it then and US even overcome #ITAR hurdle to keep the space engine/plane funded in #Colorado until just recently, which I think the funding all went to the hyper-sonic missile instead, finally bringing an end to #ReactionEngines.
I personally wished Congress had put the funding behind the now defunct #ReactionEngines #Skylon #SABRE engine for a space plane than the hypersonic missile.
Its takes #RocketLab 7.5M to get a small sat to Low Earth Orbit. Most everything else will exceed any 10M mark. #ReactionEngines #Skylon was suppose to get passengers to orbit and back for 10M, but went bankrupt a few months back.
