Looking at Monterey Bay from over a bed of ice plant (a spreading succulent that kind of looks like grass from afar, but up close has many juicy fat little leaves). Just right of center, a single pink flower is blooming. In the background, the blue water crashes gently against some rugged but sea-worn rocks on the shore. In the far distance, some hills can be seen through the haze. There is a trail of fluffy little clouds in the sky. The sun is out of frame, probably at around the 10 o'clock point.
Looking down at some wet sand on a beach. Among some "larger" rocks (that look like they are some kind of granite or other conglomerate rock) are some dead or mostly dead bits of seaweed, and some assorted shells. There are two long skinny mussel shells with iridescent dark blueish-purple lining reflecting the blue sky, separated by a small clump of completely bleached seaweed. Above these in the picture, but to the right of the larger rocks are some other shells from various snails or bivalves. Some are missing pieces, some look whole. They are orange and purple and black and white and greyish... it's a very colorful array.
Looking across some sea-worn rocks piled up and forming a tide pool. There is a large, light-colored boulder on the right side of the photo, and coming out on the left of it is an array of smaller, darker, and not quite as worn rocks that make an uneven arc. Beyond them is the blue water, and blue sky with a few high clouds. The photo is angled about 45 degrees to the right, so it looks like the horizon is slanting downward
It's me, taking a selfie at the base of an enormous tree. The trunk is at least three times as wide as I am (including my dark grey wide-brimmed sun hat), and is light in color. The canopy is very far overhead, and there is a very large burl about a meter over my head, that is about 2-3 times the size of my head. The trunk splits off into three or four smaller trunks above that point. All you can see of me are the tops of my sunglasses, a bit of my forehead, and my hat.
More pics from my 2019 Monterey adventures
(Wishing I was there, right now, and not in this godsforsaken boiling landlocked heat.)
