A pair of Red-eyed Damselflies ovipositing in tandem in a fishing lake. The male is blue and black, with tomato-red eyes, a red face, and a green underside to his abdomen. The female is black and green, with brown shoulder stripes, green and brown eyes, and brown and cream facial markings. She is laying her eggs into the stem of a yellow water-fringe flower, which is a kind of small, wild, water lily. The male is holding the top of the flower with two of his claws, and is holding the female's pronotum (shoulder plate) with the claspers at the end of his abdomen. This prevents any rival male from seizing her and mating with her before she's laid the eggs he has inseminated.
