A male Red-veined Darter clings to a dry rush at the edge of a lake, shot in profile, his body held out horizontally and looking towards the left of frame. He's a small, rose-red dragonfly with distinctive two-tone eyes that are red above and pale blue below. His brown thorax has a single pale diagonal stripe on the side, and his mainly clear wings have a large orange cloud at the hindwing base, and red veins towards the bases and leading edges.
