A common garter snakes, coiled artistically over a mound of dried marsh reeds. This one is rather small but there is a larger one just to the right.

And there were garter snakes in the marsh! I saw a number coiled up in the grass waiting for the day to warm them up. This was a particularly cute little noodle.
