Imagine you are old enough to work, but too young to drive. There's a cheap, efficient alternative you have access to, but only if you accept injury/death as an outcome, b/c politicians rank your needs & human rights as less important than driver convenience or traffic flow. This is #RoadViolence.

A woman was allowed to take this absurd monstrosity, described as unsafe by police, onto public roads and into a parking lot where she killed a woman. The consequences? A fine less than the cost of a decent notebook computer and she can go home. #AutoCulture #Impunity #RoadViolence

Traffic deaths are not accidents. They are predictable and preventable. People will always make mistakes on the road, or as in this case, drive recklessly. #VisionZero means designing streets so those mistakes or dangerous actions don’t become tragedies #RoadViolence

Manitoba Health Minister says banning paid plasma an option after 2 deaths | CBC News Paid plasma could be banned in Manitoba, the province's health minister said after two fatal adverse reactions at Winnipeg collection centres were reported to Health Canada.

Imagine if road violence was given the same level of consideration to stop the source that is causing death? 🤔

Some of the replies saying the sentence was too soft, but at 12 years that's a lot more justice than most #RoadViolence victims get.

Still though, when are we going to get preventative policing? How the hell is anyone allowed to think that doing 60 in a 30 is normal?

We walked past the aftermath about an hour later when the road was still closed. There was a pair of boots close to the crosswalk that were being photographed. We asked the cop if it was a pedestrian hit but they wouldn't say. It was certainly my instinct based on the scene #RoadViolence

Driver who hit Liverpool parade said to have had history of explosive violence Paul Doyle had previous serious convictions and was described as a ‘live wire’ by a Royal Marines colleague

It's top of mind for me rn - dashcam footage shows the violent man who mowed down 134 people in Liverpool in May '25 driving dangerously beforehand. That nobody died is b/c his speed was limited but the emotional scars will likely never heal. CW #RoadViolence www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025... 2/2

The thing that scares me most - as someone relying on my feet, my bike or on buses to get around my city - is the aggression that I see among drivers on a daily basis. Excessive speed, jumping red lights, failing to stop, this #RoadViolence is downplayed & typically goes unpunished 1/2

I witnessed the aftermath of 2 auto crashes this week. There was significant damage to the cars in both & in one, damage to the hazard warning sign marking a pedestrian crosswalk. That's at least $28k, if no injuries (2018 CRISP study: drivetolive.ca/research/col...) #RoadViolence #SafeStreetsNS

On September 19, someone's mom was killed in Guelph by the driver of a pickup truck. The driver has now been charged. (Mom was killed but her husband and 3-year-old daughter in a stroller were struck as well!!!)

On August 29, a Guelph cyclist was killed by the driver of a garbage truck. The driver has now been charged.

But today, the @guelphpoliceservice announce a month long campaign of enforcement against people on bikes to ensure they know the rules of the road?

This is a police service demonstrating a failure to adequately respond to road safety issues. It lacks compassion and empathy for the two people (and their families) who were killed by dangerous and careless drivers. The Service should be reviewed and it's priorities dictated to it by Guelph City Council as GPS appear unable/unwilling to address the true dangers on our roadways.

The lack of compassion, understanding, nuance, etc. boils our blood and rocks our faith in the Service to it's core. I doubt we are alone.

Ride safe Guelph Cycling friends, the law is after you.

Screenshot from a report on changing the narrative on road deaths in London, UK. Text reads:

How do we address motonormativity?
The action that is needed to achieve Vision Zero, while including how we talk about it, goes beyond this to societal change. Nneka Henry, Head of UN Road Safety Fund: “It is not enough to wish for safer streets or to imagine that the limited resources which are currently being invested is nearly enough to make it happen. This moral imperative requires us to invest in infrastructure, enforce laws, and educate the public, all while treating each life on the road with the utmost respect.”26

Alter the language around driving
RoadPeace first made the case for using ‘crash’ not ‘accident’ to describe what happens when a driver runs into a person or another car over 25 years ago:
“Crashes have causes and contributory factors, accidents have excuses.
Using ‘accident’ encourages a sense of fatalism, with fewer resources
invested in prevention efforts as a result.”27
