Wing Runner - The unsung hero of a glider launch!
Not only do they help run the wing on take-off, they might have other duties, including pre-flight, tow connection and communication between tow pilot and sailplane pilot.

Sailplane with one wing removed from the fuselage
The sailplane wing is held by the spar root on a dolly. You just roll the wing in and lock it in place inside the trailer.
The sailplane fuselage, minus the wings, sits on a wheeled dolly on the tongue of the trailer. The final step is rolling it into the trailer between the wings.
Sailplane trailers are very light and easy to tow. Loaded with plane, the weight on these are around 1500 lbs total for an average sailplane.

If you aren't flying, or want to transport your plane, they come apart and fit in a thirty foot long trailer. Two people is all it takes.
This also comes in handy for when you land in a farmer's field and need to have someone come and get you.

Ridge Lift - Rising or maintaining altitude by using the wind that is striking the mountains. It takes a 15-20mph wind to do this. The idea is that you must fly close to the terrain to get the full effect. There is an amount of danger here, especially in stronger winds.
In the photo, I am flying with a friend for hours along a 20 mile long ridge running north from Mt Rainier. We have to stay close to this ridge, going back and forth, or risk loss of altitude and the need to return to the airfield.
