Depicted is a publicity photo of Jim Henson's Sam and Friends show, which aired live twice daily as a local series in Washington, D.C. from May 9, 1955 to December 15, 1961 with several hiatuses occurring between those years. The show ran for 86 episodes, though only 59 shorts (15 existing, 35 documented, and 9 known from memory) have been identified. Due to network budget issues, most of the original live broadcasts were never preserved to film/kinescope, and are considered lost. As near as I can ascertain, eight full episodes are known to have been preserved on film and over 400 audio only recordings of the show exist. Shown are various Muppets including Sam (top right corner) and Kermit (front center). Puppeteers shown are Jerry Juhl, Jim Henson, and Jane Henson.
