The Sandhill Crane numbers were higher at the surrounding farms near the WI River this weekend. My guess is we are near peak. I saw at least 3000 on Saturday resulting in very memorable crane joy! I arrived there late, abt 9:30am, and the birds were just taking off for the day. #birds #Sandhills

A large farm field with many Sandhill Cranes scattered about the fields. They are passing through on their migration South for the Winter.

A little closer shot of a few of the 200+ birds that were scattered in the fields. There is a junior Sandhill coming in for a landing with it's legs hanging down n the far right of the frame.

I also saw about 200 Sandhill Cranes up near the Wi River last weekend. I am hoping for more this weekend.It was a dark day and the birds were deep in a farm field.They were a tad far for good pics, but here's a 100mm and a 500mm shots of what I saw.Warms my heart to see so many!
