Serviceberries! I've tasted serviceberries in BC and found them so-so, but these ones I picked during a visit to Newfoundland are sweet, and delicious. Blueberry meets apple/pear, for me, although some describe the flavour as almondy.

Amelanchier spp ( #Serviceberry). A genus of shrubs/trees #native to the Northern Hemisphere; most diverse in NA. White #flowers bloom early in spring followed by dark red/purple #fruit usually in June. Wildlife love the fruit and is used in various recipes. Mostly found on wet sites.
