And evolved to thick plastic so I could dig a deeper end.
15 months after building my stump garden & wildlife pond.... it has evolved quite nicely!

On the blog this week at chickadeegardens.com we look at the shade garden, my dry shade garden and what is thriving. It's taken many years for this garden to feel lush with this much dry under trees, and here we are. 🌱

We got a bunch of celandine poppies in, and they're calling my name.... native wood poppies are awesome!🌱 #stylophorumdiphyllum
They thrive in part shade and love wet soil, but can tolerate drought conditions by going dormant. 💛

Typical form of the rare treasure Trillium decumbens. Native to Georgia *So named for the prostrate stem that lies horizontally under the leaf litter
An unusual dark foliage form of Trillium decumbens. Also seems to have much more vigorous growth than the typical form. Gotta love those genetics!
This is an older group of Prairie Trillium (Trillium recurvatum) These are mature plants, but not going to bloom this year because they've become too congested. Will be lifting & diving these to give individual plants more room.
Another special treasure...Trillium decipiens. This Trillium is found in the South Eastern states. It was gifted to me from a friend years ago. First few years it was still on southern time, and always came up too soon, so was zapped by hard freeze every year. Finally it is on NY time and doesn't come up so early as to get damaged.
Many of our peeps look forward to Trillium Stroll in the gardens here.
I begin doing weekly updates as to the progression towards "Best Trillium Viewing" so people can time their visit.
And, It IS beginning now!
These are always the 1st Trillium to emerge.

A clump of hellebore blossoms shading from deep rose at the edges to soft pale pink at their base. The blossoms are inverted and dangle upside-down so most of their loveliness is shyly hidden among broad medium green leaves.
The hellebore are so pretty in the spring.
