Two pieces of fossilised wood (approx. 6 cm x 1 cm) deposited from the London clay (circa 50 mil old) found exposed along the Sheppy Cliffs and Foreshore, Isle of Sheppy, Kent, England. Both have sloppy, faeces-like 'deposits' over parts of them. They are dark and metallic looking. A QEII one penny coin is shown for size comparison.

These pieces of fossilised wood I found yesterday along the Sheppy Cliffs and Foreshore have made me reconsider what I first thought might be coprolites (fossil poo). Notice the 'sloppy and lumpy' deposits. Looks like πŸ’©, right? 🧐😁 #Fossils #WardenPoint #IsleOfSheppy #Sheppy #Kent #England

A close-up of a crystal found at the Sheppy Cliffs (on the surface, not dug out. That's illegal to do as the site is a SSSI). It's pretty translucent, and has a nicely faceted point.

A super close-up of the previous crystal.

I found this rather nice crystal whilst looking for fossils at Warden Point on the Isle of Sheppy today. My first thought was, of course, Quartz, but on looking it up crystals found in London Clay, I think it might be Selenite. I'd need a mineralogist to confirm though πŸ™‚ #Crystals #Sheppy #Kent

A hagstone (that's what we call them in Britain, amongst other names), a roughly spherical piece of mudstone about 5 cm across with multiple burrows, holes of various sizes (3-8 mm in diameter). The remains of a modern day bryozoa (a simple aquatic invertebrate animal) can be seen through the top "hole".

My friend found this rather nice hagstone (in this case the burrows of a marine worm, fossilised in mudstone, I think) on our walk along the Sheppy Foreshore on Thursday. The close-up is of the remnants of the modern day bryozoa you can see through the top "hole" #Fossils #Sheppy #Kent #England

A stylised black and white photo of the Sheppy Cliffs where London clay from the Eocene is being eroded into the sea.

I quite like this automated stylised photo of the Sheppy Cliffs that I took yesterday. It does kinda look prehistoric! The London clay being exposed here is around 50 million years old! #IsleOfSheppy #SheppyCliffs #Sheppy #Kent #England
